Late Nights and Late Night Treats

Okay, so the title is a bit misleading. That right there is the kind of late night treat I'd like (LUV) to have when I'm burning the midnight oil, the way I am tonight. But that drink at midnight on a regular basis would do unpleasant things to my body.

I made the picture nice and big so everyone is sure to see it. The cookies are a nice touch. I want ALL of that!

In reality, there's not much late night treating going on, unless you count the bowl of grapes I ate a few hours ago. But grapes aren't much fun. There have been lots of late nights, though. But I don't mind. I'm working on something I'm passionate about. Although I enjoyed being a technical writer then a business analyst at Genworth, working on book stuff is different. For one thing, my deadlines are self imposed. I find I'm more consistent when I have a deadline to beat, so I've listed tentative release dates on the homepage of this website. Another plus is that I can't be laid off.

People have been asking how it's going. Short answer: It's wonderful! I have so much more time to get things done.

I told myself I'd be really good and continue to get up at 6:30, but that has yet to happen. Not once have I gotten up at 6:30. Not once. Never. Not ever. And truth be told, I don't think I will.

Exercising is easier, though, getting out in the cold isn't fun for the first half mile. Tuesday I decided I'd run inside on my treadmill. I wasn't even a half mile in when I started thinking something was wrong. Running on a treadmill is typically easier than running outside, but this was hard. Then I realized the treadmill was set on an incline. Nothing huge, otherwise I would have noticed before I got on it, but enough to make a difference. And the sucker is missing a part so I can't change the incline. So tomorrow I have the choice between a three mile run on a constant incline or running in the cold! Not sure which it's gonna be.

And of course, I WRITE!!! I'm at it till about 3 in the afternoon with a short break to eat lunch at my laptop.

In the evening, depending on what is going on, I either write some more or work on writer business stuff. I have an article due soon so I worked on that tonight. This is also the time when I'll work on other writerly stuff. You know, the stuff that helps pay bills. I'm a little scared at the prospect of having one source of income when that source can fluctuate so much, so I'm doing other things like writing articles.

Right now I'm behind on a lot of writer business stuff so I've been busier than I probably will be going forward (once I'm all caught up). My days are pretty long, but I'm not exhausted all the time the way I was when I was working full time at Genworth and coming home at night to write.

No cabin fever so far.

I guess that's it for now. It's almost one and I'm getting sleepy.

Happy Reading!
